The SDG Platform Suriname has been expanded with eight new members. Their installation took place on Thursday, May 4, at the Assuria Event Center, conducted by Minister Albert Ramdin of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation (BIBIS). Simultaneously, a workshop with the central question “Is Suriname working result-oriented to achieve the SDGs?” was held at the same location. The SDG Platform, established last year, includes broad representation from the private, public, and societal sectors, including non-governmental organizations, businesses, district commissioners, as well as indigenous and tribal organizations.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
In addition to the installation, presentations were given, and results were showcased by the Suriname Planning Bureau, the General Bureau of Statistics (ABS), and the banking and insurance sectors. The workshop focused on SDG goals 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 13, addressing: No Poverty; Good Health and Well-being; Quality Education; Clean Water and Sanitation; Decent Work and Economic Growth for Everyone; and Climate Action. According to Anjali De Abreu-Kisoensing from the Scientific Research and Planning Department of the ABS, Suriname is on the right track with a significant portion of these goals.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The platform aims to initiate a broad movement to widely disseminate the 17 SDGs in the community and make a positive contribution to bring them into all aspects of society. Minister Ramdin emphasizes that Suriname should set an example for other countries in the region in achieving these goals by 2030. He highlights the need for increased awareness about the SDGs, urging all ministries to integrate them into their programs. The BIBIS minister states that the SDGs will contribute to more development in Suriname and are therefore crucial.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
