Petronas SURINAME E&P has successfully discovered hydrocarbons while drilling the exploration well Fusaea-1 in Block 52 off the coast of Suriname. Staatsolie has confirmed the presence of both oil and gas. The exploration well reached a total depth of 5,227 meters, encountering oil- and gas-rich sand layers in two sediment formations.<\/p>\n
The results of the drilling will be thoroughly studied to determine the extent of the reservoir. Hydrocarbons encompass both oil and gas, with potential mixtures of both in a reservoir. The drilling operations were conducted safely and concluded on April 20, 2024, bringing joy to Staatsolie.<\/p>\n
This successful news follows earlier discoveries in the same block, such as the Roystonea-1 oil discovery in November 2023 and the Sloanea-1 gas discovery in December 2020, as reported by Staatsolie in a press release.<\/p>\n
With various discoveries across different blocks, Suriname is contributing to the development of a promising offshore oil and gas sector. Staatsolie aims to secure as much area under contract with international partners as possible, who can contribute to the development of these areas through their investments, knowledge, and expertise.<\/p>\n
Petronas regards the success of Fusaea-1, along with the discoveries of Roystonea-1 and Sloanea-1, as a crucial advancement in the potential integrated development of oil and gas reserves in Block 52.<\/p>\n
Fusaea-1 is the first of two wells that the company will drill this year. It is located approximately 9 kilometers east of Roystonea-1 and 170 kilometers off the Surinamese coast in Block 52. Currently, the Noble Voyager ship is drilling the Sloanea-2 exploration well.<\/p>\n
This exploration well is the result of an agreement (Letter of Agreement) signed by Staatsolie and the parties in Block 52 in March of this year to further investigate the Sloanea-1 gas discovery.
