Dutch ambassador and VSB share visions on Surinamese economy and SDGs

In Paramaribo, the Association of Surinamese Business and Industry (VSB) and the Dutch ambassador, Walter Oostelbos, and Virendya Battja, Senior Economic Policy Advisor, exchanged views on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the economy. This was reported by the VSB in their newsletter. An important topic of discussion was the role of the private sector in the Surinamese economy, as well as the responsibility and involvement of this sector in achieving the SDGs.

The board of the VSB, represented by Rekha Bissumbhar (chairman), Jan van Charante (treasurer), Arianne de Bye and Gerard den Dekker (board members), participated in the discussion. The ambassador particularly emphasized the importance of SDGs 5 and 10 with regard to diversity and inclusion, in line with the slogan of the SDGs “Leave no one behind”.

The VSB, for its part, emphasized that the development goals are an integral part of its mission, vision and core values. In addition, a number of SDGs serve as a guideline and compass for the strategy, policy and implementation of the VSB. This constructive conversation, which took place on March 14, underscores the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in pursuing sustainable development goals and economic growth in Suriname.
