Petronas Plans Additional Drilling for Final Investment Decision in Suriname
Malaysian Oil Giant Considers Additional Operations in Surinamese Deep-Sea Blocks
Petronas is considering conducting at least two additional drillings next year to gather more data for field planning and to undertake detailed studies that could lead to a Final Investment Decision (FID). This announcement was made by Petronas Chief Operating Officer, Adnan Zainal Abidin, during a meeting with President Chan Santokhi.
The Malaysian oil company is also exploring the option of producing liquefied natural gas from floating facilities.
A Petronas delegation discussed recent discoveries in Block 52 and Roystonea-1 in the Surinamese deep-sea with the country’s head of state. Annand Jagesar, Director of Staatsolie NV, also attended the presentation yesterday.
The meeting primarily focused on the collaborative development of recent oil and gas discoveries between Petronas and Staatsolie.
While Director Jagesar of Staatsolie expressed satisfaction with the collaboration, he highlighted the necessity for new negotiations due to the gas discoveries. Unlike profitable oil extraction, gas processing involves a costly liquefaction process for export. Jagesar stated, “With gas discoveries, we are revisiting the conditions with our partner, and that is our current focus.”
