Promised Monthly Support for Vulnerable and Disabled Remains Unpaid
Government’s Failure to Deliver on December 2023 Social Support Leaves Citizens Disappointed
The promised monetary support of 1,800 SRD (~ $50 USD) for the socially vulnerable and people with disabilities for the month of December 2023 has not been disbursed as of now. This information was reported to the editorial team of Waterkant.Net by a source.
According to the director of the Ministry of Finance in Suriname, Radj Parohi, the disbursement was supposed to take place immediately after the Christmas holidays.
Previously, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had already rebuked the Surinamese government regarding the social program being implemented.
Several government leaders have also expressed dissatisfaction with the policy regarding the social program.
Applicants are once again very disappointed in the president and believe that they constantly have to demand their benefits. This is despite the government repeatedly promising to handle matters more effectively.
“It will not be a blessed end for the applicants,” the source further reports.
