Suriname Invites Investors for West-Suriname Bauxite Project

The Government of Suriname is pleased to announce its commitment to unlocking the vast potential of West-Suriname’s Bakhuis bauxite resources by inviting strategic investors to participate in a transformative project aimed at adding substantial value to this critical sector of our economy.

West-Suriname boasts significant bauxite deposits that have remained largely untapped, presenting an exciting opportunity for investors to engage in sustainable resource development that will contribute to the nation’s growth and prosperity; the Bakhuis Resources have been assessed at 324 million tons in accordance with the guidelines of the Australian Code for Reporting of Identified Mineral Resources and Ore Resources, as contained in the Report of the Joint Committee of the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (JORC, 2004).

Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) – Q4, 2023

To initiate this landmark endeavor, the Government of Suriname will commence the process in the fourth quarter of 2023 by issuing a Request for Expressions of Interest (EOI). This call for interest will be extended to global companies, international investors, and other relevant stakeholders interested in partnering with Suriname to harness the full potential of our bauxite resources.

The EOI will be disseminated to various channels, including news outlets, embassies, and industry associations, ensuring that a diverse range of potential partners can participate in this exciting opportunity.

Request for Proposal (RFP)

Subsequent Phase Following the initial expression of interest phase, shortlisted companies will be invited to participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage. During this phase, selected firms will receive detailed information and comprehensive data about West-Suriname’s bauxite resources, infrastructure, regulatory framework, and the government’s vision for sustainable development.

Companies participating in the RFP process will have the opportunity to submit comprehensive proposals outlining their strategies, expertise, and commitment to adding value to the bauxite sector while adhering to environmental and social responsibility standards. The Government of Suriname is dedicated to transparency, fairness, and inclusivity throughout this endeavor, ensuring that the selection process is conducted with the utmost integrity.
