Suriname’s Strategic Advancements in Oil and Gas Industry Development

Minister Ramdin Highlights Suriname’s Preparedness and Urges Swift Action

Suriname’s Strategic Advancements in Oil and Gas Industry Development

According to Minister Albert Ramdin of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation (BIBIS), Suriname is still on the right track in developing the oil and gas industry. The minister believes that Suriname will not miss the bus, contrary to the statement made by Guyanese Vice President Bharat Jagdeo earlier this month. Despite Guyana starting earlier, Minister Ramdin states that Suriname is better prepared.

“We will also reach where we need to be. It’s an unfortunate statement from the Vice President of Guyana. Perhaps he means well, that our country should hurry, and he is right about that. We need to prepare as a society for oil and gas, especially because there is still a lot of work to be done,” said the BIBIS minister.

He emphasizes that the entire society and business sector need to be prepared. “There will be high expectations,” says Ramdin, adding that both Surinamese and foreign companies should be ready. The minister applauds the steps taken by Surinamese individuals who have taken the lead in the oil and gas industry, mentioning Gum Air’s heliport, among others. According to the minister, entrepreneurs don’t need to wait for the government. “Seize the opportunity and dive in,” is his call. The minister notes that some large companies are already taking advantage of the opportunities and advises others to follow suit. He also suggests that the education system should be aligned with the oil and gas industry.
